EaseMD Systems benefits physicians by taking advantage of the ARRA EaseMD Systems, a longtime client of CPA Group, is uniquely poised to take advantage of President Obama’s and Congress’s ARRA.
Founded in 2001 by Randy Farr and Bruce LeFew, EaseMD systems is a company with a passion for bringing medical practices from today’s paper environment to the electronic age. EaseMD currently supports 120 clients on eClinicalWorks, software that electronically integrates the clinical and business sides of physician practices. The demand for this service is increasing dramatically.
“Last year we saw an increase of 30 practices. This year, as of the end of April we have already engaged 30 practices and expect even greater numbers by year end,” says Randy Farr. All told, EaseMD expects a growth of 100 practices in 2009.
Why the growth? EaseMD says the growth is a combination of natural technological progress and a jolt of economic stimulus provided by the HITECH act embedded in the ARRA. “We were seeing tremendous growth before the HITECH became known in January, now the pace is accelerating dramatically. We are having trouble keeping apace of the demand, but we’re happy to have that kind of problem in these hard economic times,” says Bruce LeFew
Converting a client from their paper environment to electronic medical records is no easy task. It’s about a four-month effort including the practice and the EaseMD team to ensure that all physicians and staff are comfortable and patient care is not compromised. “Most practices see their cost structure decline by about 10% once the transition period is complete. There are other benefits such as no lost charts, better communication among office staff, and patient data that is easy-to-use and find,” says Gretchen Hoffman, Director of Client Implementation.
Why the surge in demand? Through Medicare, the ARRA’s HITECH act provides $44,000 in payments over 5 years to physicians that are using qualified EMRs (Electronic Medical Records). These payments begin in 2011 and go to physicians with an EMR already in place by that time.
